interior design furniture

hi my name’s michael molloy, i’m a lecturerin interior design at qut. i’m here at the workshop at gardens pointcampus where we’re running a furniture short course for participants who are designersand architects in industry. so we have a wide range of interesting objectsthat these participants have designed and they’re now in the process of making them. they’re completely different materials, different thought processes, and we’re almost at the point of completion now. i think that the people that have participatedin the course have really learnt an enormous amount.

it’s quite unpredictable what can happenin a program that is so hands-on. my name’s professor jill franz and my roleat qut is discipline head of interior design, and i’m a participant in the furniture designand making short course. and what we have here is the cabinet to thefurniture piece which i’m designing and making. the cabinet as you can see is made up of quitecomplex, interjoined geometric facets. constructing this cabinetry is quite complexand i’m drawing on the expert skills of the workshop to be able to guide me throughthis process. my name is leona, i work professionally asan interior designer for gyre.

my object came about as a bit of an experimentwith a material that is normally utilised for external cladding or external signage. there’s various brands of the product butit’s essentially a composite material with an aluminium coating either side. my name is selin carone. i’m part of the furniture-making short course. i’m also a qut student and i decided todesign a coffee table. what i have learnt with the short course isto see how you actually start from scratch to something totally finished.

seeing the whole process going and see howyou bend and how you polish and how you sand everything. it sounds easy and it looks easy but whenyou have to do it yourself takes a lot of time and it’s not as easy as you can think. that process, that journey is different foreach of them. so they’ve all learnt different things buttheir experiences i think have been rewarding, and enjoyable, and challenging, and i thinkthey’ve learnt a lot.
